Mahogany Hammock Trail

Share: f 𝕏
The Mahogany Hammock Trail is a short boardwalk loop in Everglades National Park that passes through one of the largest mahogany tree stands in the United States. The trail winds beneath a dense canopy of West Indian mahogany, gumbo-limbo, and other tropical hardwood species that thrive in this elevated, well-drained hammock environment. The contrast with the surrounding open marsh is striking — stepping into the hammock, the light dims, the air cools slightly, and the forest floor is rich with ferns and orchids. Birding is excellent here, with warblers and vireos moving through the understory. It is one of the most accessible and rewarding short walks in the park.
