Marker 33 is a waypoint within the Everglades, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve that sits on the doorstep of Miami. The numbered markers along this type of route help visitors track their position and ensure they can find their way back through the otherwise featureless horizon.
At this point in the route, the sky overhead often becomes as interesting as the ground — osprey and frigatebirds soar on thermals, and during migration season, raptors move through in impressive numbers. This part of South Florida lies along a major migratory corridor.
