Nilgai

The Nilgai is Asia's largest antelope, native to the Indian subcontinent, and its exhibit at Zoo Miami in Richmond West is a fascinating window into the wildlife of South Asia. Males carry a bluish-grey coat and small curved horns, while females and young are tawny brown — a difference striking enough to cause early European observers to think they were different species. Because nilgais are large and hardy, they move with a relaxed confidence that makes them easy and satisfying to observe. This is a lesser-known exhibit that rewards visitors who take time to wander beyond the park's most famous animals.
