Anoa
The Anoa is the world's smallest wild cattle species, native to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, and the exhibit at Zoo Miami in Richmond West gives visitors a rare chance to encounter an animal that few people have ever heard of. Compact and self-contained, the anoa carries short, straight horns and moves with quiet confidence through its enclosure.
Both the lowland and mountain subspecies are endangered in the wild, threatened by habitat destruction and hunting. Seeing an anoa in person is not just unusual — it is a reminder of how much biodiversity remains hidden beyond the world's most famous animals.
