Marker 38 is a numbered waypoint on an Everglades observation route, placed at a point that offers a representative slice of the park's interior wetland environment. The Everglades National Park was established in 1947 specifically to protect the ecological value of this landscape, and routes through the park trace some of its most intact terrain. At a stop like this, the canopy opens up and the sky dominates. Cumulus clouds build through the afternoon in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are part of the wet-season rhythm here — plan visits in the morning to enjoy these stops at their calmest.
