Ball & Chain
Ball & Chain first opened its doors in 1935 on SW 8th Street — the legendary Calle Ocho — back when it welcomed jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, and Chet Baker to its intimate stage. After decades away, the venue was lovingly restored and reopened in 2014, reclaiming its rightful place as the cultural soul of Little Havana. Today it is one of the most beloved live music bars in South Florida, packing in salsa, jazz, Afrobeat, and tropical rhythms every night of the week.
The space drips with old Havana nostalgia: lush tropical murals, vintage photographs, and a wraparound bar anchored by a spectacular mango tree at the center. The cocktail program is built around Cuban classics — the mojito, the daiquiri, the Cuba Libre — all made with fresh-squeezed juices and premium spirits. The kitchen serves Cuban-inspired bites and street food that pair perfectly with the festive atmosphere. Free salsa and bachata lessons are offered multiple times a week, welcoming complete beginners.
Ball & Chain is a true Miami cultural treasure. Visit any night for live music and nightlife, but come early on weekends when the dance floor is packed and the energy is absolutely electric. Parking on nearby streets; ride-share is highly recommended.
