Crane Point Museum in Marathon is one of the Florida Keys' most important cultural and natural heritage sites, set within a sixty-three-acre nature reserve that protects one of the last remaining stands of native palm hammock in the archipelago. The museum complex tells the story of human life in the Keys across multiple centuries, from prehistoric peoples and wreckers to the railroad era and the development of modern Keys culture. Nature trails wind through the property, passing historic structures, wildlife, and the kind of native habitat that has largely disappeared elsewhere in South Florida. Crane Point is the rare attraction that rewards both history enthusiasts and nature lovers equally.
